Geberit continues to carry out social projects in 2015. As in 2012, this year’s apprentices will travel to South Africa – this time near the port city of Durban in the province of KwaZulu-Natal, where Cottonlands Primary School is badly in need of assistance.
Cottonlands Primary is today attended by some 1,000 schoolchildren, though the original 1945 structure was intended for only around 500. Rapid population growth in Cottonlands will push attendance even higher in the near future. Renewal of the infrastructure is urgently required.
The only school in the community of 15,000 inhabitants, Cottonlands Primary is free for all schoolchildren. Five cooks – working in a kitchenette measuring a mere six square meters – ensure that the girls and boys have something to eat at lunchtime. The school has a total of 18 toilets, but only two of them feature running water.
Geberit South Africa, working with a local construction company, is currently carrying out the preparatory work necessary for the Geberit team to renovate the sanitary installations as extensively as possible during their stay in November 2015. Please watch this space and follow us on Facebook for updates during the project.
